Peripheral plantations function primarily as the natural lungs of a metropolis. As prevailing winds carry dust, industrial exhaust, and vehicular emissions toward congested urban centers, strategically placed forest belts intercept and filter these dangerous particulate matters before they enter densely populated residential zones. Furthermore, trees play a critical role in mitigating the urban heat island effect. By providing expansive shade and facilitating cooling through transpiration, large-scale peripheral forests effectively lower regional temperatures, breaking up the stagnant domes of heat that frequently hover over industrialized urban zones during peak summer months.
Beyond air purification and temperature regulation, establishing robust green covers around big cities is essential for preserving the local water table and securing the soil structure. Deep root networks anchor the earth, preventing urban erosion and facilitating the natural recharge of groundwater reserves that cities heavily rely upon. However, for these urban forestry initiatives to succeed, they must be supported by a clean, unpolluted environment.
